It's possible to create users outside of your Azure AD, so you can give, e.g., external consultants or board members, training too.
This article applies to organisations who use AD-sync and single sign-on to manage their users. Not sure what that means? We cover user sign on types in this article.
How it works
On the CyberPilot platform, you can create a user that exists outside of your Azure AD. When you create this kind of user, they will login to the CyberPilot App using a username and password, unlike your other users who use single sign-on. These users will not be a part of your AD synchronisation.
This enables you to add, for example, external consultants you work with or board members, to your training with CyberPilot. You have the option to set users up with an automatic expiration date. This way they can have access just long enough to do the job at hand.
Warning: Users created with the "Use manual login" setting cannot later be changed to a different login setting.
Users outside your Azure AD will login through a different URL than your other users
If you use single sign-on, your organisation accesses CyberPilot's platfom through a URL that is customised for you.
Users created outside of your Azure AD, who use manual login, will access CyberPilot's platform through our generic URL: https://app.cyberpilot.io/
You don't have to worry about this, because we make sure they get the correct URL in all the emails we send them from our platform.
What to do
Here's how to create a user outside of your organisation.
- Login and go to your "Admin" view
- Click on "Users" from the left panel
- Click on "Create new"
- Fill out the new user's information. Their email address should be their username.
- See more about what the fields on creating a new user mean here.
- Set the user as active
- Make sure to enable the toggle called "Use manual login"
- If you would like the user's account to be temporary, slide the toggle called "Temporary account". You will then be asked to select a date the user's account will be automatically deleted.
- Use this if you are, e.g., making an account for a consultant, but you don't want to have to remember to delete their access later on.
- Click "Create"
And that's it!
The user has now been created. They will not receive an email from the CyberPilot platform until they have a course assigned to them.
